THOSE WHO FORGET THE LESSONS OF THE PAST ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT THEM......
THIS QUOTE IS COMMONLY ATTRIBUTED TO GEORGE SANTAYANA, BUT HAS ACTUALLY BEEN SAID IN VARIOUS FORMS THROUGHOUT THE CENTURIES FROM HERODUTUS TO CHURCHILL AND EVEN THAT GREAT 21 ST CENTURY AMERICAN....ROB.....WHO IS ALWAYS RIGHT.......SMITH.
One cannot possibly understand the world and civic events without a thorough grounding in history. I have been fortunate enough to teach a class at the University of Richmond (which I made up) titled Human Nature, History and Economics. History repeats itself and economics are perfectly predictable because HUMAN NATURE NEVER CHANGES.( I refer you to the Book of Genesis for an awesome and beautiful analysis of the "duality of man"). MAN (this includes you ladies) recognizes God's natural law of right and wrong, yet is in constant struggle with these laws because of our selfish nature.
History teaches us that MAN is apt to and/or will behave in perfectly predictable ways. Our public policies fail to take this most fundamantal law into account. We fail to cater our civic institutions to harness and restrict the good and bad elements (duality) of our essential human character. If one understands the lessons of history, which are all built on our predictible ways of behaving, then one knows immediately what legislative intiatives will likely work and which ones won't.
This is one of the reasons why I AM ALWAYS RIGHT!
